Halloween Projects

I love Halloween…I’m not sure if it’s the crisp fall weather, the smell of the leaves on the ground, or the opportunity to scare little wee ones who come to the door looking for a treat. So of course, I go a little crazy with DIY decorating projects-some scary and some not so scary. Here are 19 simple, easy projects you can create yourself. Some of them I have created for DIY NETWORK, so I’ll link them to their HOW-TO step by steps and some I just made for this Halloween and are so simple, just looking at the picture, you’ll know what to do!  Happy Halloween!

Valentine’s Day Easy DIY’s, Hearts and More…

I love to craft, so it shouldn’t surprise you that yesterday I was I rummaging through my craft bins to find some scraps I could make some Valentine’s Day DIY’s out of. These leather ornament style hearts are what I came up with. I had some left-over left from old seats (you can try to get salvaged leather from a local upholster, an unusable jacket with holes, or some outdated samples from a furniture or online.) Have fun and enjoy all the crafty ways you can add something special to your Valentine’s Day!  XXOO Joanne

Salvaged Leather Heart Ornaments for Valentines Day

Simple, yet elegant and easy to make. Using the leather awl, create a holes for the needle to get the cording through both sides. Leave a little opening to stuff with the scrapes of the leather you didn’t use. Then finish it up.

How to Make Leather Heart Ornaments

Here is what you need. Scrap leather pieces, mine is from an old seat. Cording, a yarn needle, leather awl, scissors, a piece of wood or cutting board (to push the awl into through the leather.

If you want to hang your hearts on a mobile, then find a fun branch, and using some hot glue, wrap it with red yarn.

You can hang your heart mobile over your bed or dining room table.

Speaking of table settings, if you are staying in for a romantic dinner, you can create some easy table setting. I made these for DIY NETWORK. The How-To Instructions are on their site.

What to do with the left-over candy boxes? Keep them and give them a new life. You can create photo boxes or love letter boxes. Link over to the Country Living Magazine site to see this idea and 24 more easy DIY’s.

Heart Wall Art Decor

I made this one out of an old table top and some plumbing fixtures I picked up at my favorite metal scrap yard.

Recycled Glass Heart… I picked up three of these (one for each of us) at Bedrock Industries in Seattle. They are tucked into our fireplace so we can enjoy them everyday. Happy Valentines to you!
